Line up the finalists from a dozen Olympic events and the variety is striking. Marathon runners are small and light; shot putters are enormous. Gymnasts are compact, powerful and extraordinarily mobile; volleyball blockers are the tallest people in the building. Swimmers frequently have an arm span longer than their height. Coxswains are deliberately tiny while the crew behind them are among the largest athletes in any endurance sport.
None of this is accidental. Each event rewards a particular combination of proportions and physical qualities, and over a long enough competitive filter, the people who reach the top tend to be the ones who started with a build that suited the demands. Height helps enormously in the high jump and hardly at all in gymnastics, where it works against you. A long arm span converts directly into leverage in swimming and rowing. Body mass is an asset in the throws and a penalty in every event where you carry yourself uphill.
What These Quizzes Do
Each quiz asks about your measurements — height, body weight, arm span — and about your current physical qualities, using short questions with concrete answers: your 100m time, how far you can run without stopping, your vertical jump, your push-ups, pull-ups and squat, your flexibility and agility. It then compares your profile against benchmark ranges for each event and scores how closely you match, as a percentage.
You get a single top match, a top five sports, and the full ranked list, along with an explanation of which attributes drove the score and a confidence figure based on how much of the quiz you filled in. Every question is optional; skipping some lowers the confidence but still produces a usable result.
Three Pools to Choose From
- All sports — the widest net, covering 49 sports and 114 individual events, from athletics and swimming through to lawn bowls, surfing and breaking.
- Olympic — restricted to the Summer Olympic programme. Smaller, more aspirational, and the version most people are curious about.
- Commonwealth Games — a shorter list that makes room for sports the Olympics doesn't, including netball, squash, cricket and lawn bowls.
All three use the same scoring engine and the same questions; only the pool of events being scored against changes.
How to Read Your Result
A high fit score means your physical profile resembles that of people who tend to do well in that event. That is genuinely interesting information, and it's a good way to discover sports you'd never have considered. It is not a prediction of how far you'd go.
Physique is one input among many, and rarely the decisive one. Coaching, training age, consistency, psychology, opportunity, injury luck and plain enjoyment all matter more over a career. Sport is full of athletes who succeeded in events their measurements said they had no business in, usually by being better than everyone else at the parts a tape measure can't see. Treat your top five as a shortlist worth exploring, not a verdict.
One practical note: measure your arm span before you start. It's fingertip to fingertip with your arms outstretched, and it's the measurement most people have never taken. It carries real weight in swimming, rowing, throwing, climbing and the combat sports, so providing it noticeably sharpens your result.
