How Our Calculators Are Built
Every tool on MinuteMetric follows the same approach. We start with a question people actually ask — how much concrete do I need, how long will this debt take to clear, what pace do I need to hold for a target race time — and then build the smallest tool that answers it properly.
- Published formulas. Our calculators use established, documented methods: Naegele's rule for due dates, MET values from the Compendium of Physical Activities for exercise energy cost, standard amortisation maths for loans, the Wilks coefficient for powerlifting comparisons. We don't invent formulas.
- Explained, not hidden. Each calculator page sets out the formula it uses and works through the arithmetic, so you can check the result by hand or adapt the method to a situation we haven't covered.
- Honest about limits. Estimates are labelled as estimates. Where a tool simplifies something — a debt calculator assuming a fixed minimum payment, a BMI figure that can't distinguish muscle from fat — we say so on the page rather than letting a confident-looking number imply more precision than it has.
- Tested against known values. Before a calculator goes live we check it against worked examples and edge cases: zero and negative inputs, unit conversions in both directions, and figures where we already know the correct answer.
- Revised when we get it wrong. If a reader points out an error or an unclear explanation, we fix it. Corrections to the underlying method are made across every affected page.
What We Don't Do
Being clear about the boundaries is part of being useful. MinuteMetric provides general information and estimation tools. We do not provide medical, financial, legal, structural or professional advice, and our calculators are not a substitute for a qualified practitioner who knows your circumstances.
Our health and fitness tools use population-level formulas that describe averages, and you are not an average. Our finance tools ignore fees, tax treatment and rate changes unless a page says otherwise. Our construction tools give theoretical quantities that need a waste allowance and must sit within your local building code. Where a decision carries real consequences — a medical question, a large financial commitment, structural work — use our tools to understand the shape of the problem, then talk to a professional.
We also don't ask for personal information to use a calculator. Every tool runs entirely in your browser: the numbers you type are processed on your own device and are not sent to us or stored on a server.
Advertising and How the Site Is Funded
MinuteMetric is free to use and is funded by advertising. Ads are served by third-party networks and are clearly distinguishable from our content. Advertising never determines what a calculator returns, and we don't write pages to favour any advertiser. Our Privacy Policy explains what data advertising partners may collect and how to manage your preferences.
Get In Touch
We genuinely read the messages we get, and a good proportion of the calculators on this site exist because somebody asked for them. If a tool gives a result you think is wrong, if an explanation doesn't make sense, or if there's a calculation you keep doing by hand and wish you didn't have to — tell us on the Contact page.
