One point worth noting: the figure includes the energy you would have burned anyway just by existing during that hour. If you want the additional cost of the exercise, subtract roughly 1 MET × your weight × the duration — about 70 kcal per hour for a 70 kg person. For most purposes the difference is small, but it explains why gym machines and apps often report slightly different numbers for the same workout.
