Two questions dominate academic planning: where do I actually stand, and what do I need to do next? The calculators here answer both — converting grades into a GPA, working out the mark required on a final to reach a target, and turning a study workload into a realistic schedule.
The final-grade calculation is often the most clarifying. Once you know that a remaining assessment is worth 30% of the module, you can compute exactly what you need on it, and the answer is frequently either far more reassuring or far more urgent than it felt beforehand. Either way it beats guessing.
What the Evidence Says About Studying
- Testing beats re-reading. Retrieving information from memory — flashcards, practice questions, explaining a topic from scratch — produces markedly better retention than reviewing notes, even though re-reading feels more productive.
- Spacing beats cramming. The same total hours spread over weeks outperform the same hours the night before, and by a wide margin for anything you need to remember beyond the exam.
- Plan in sessions, not hours. Blocks of focused work with real breaks are more sustainable than open-ended sessions that quietly become distracted ones.
- Protect sleep. Memory consolidation happens during sleep. Studying through the night trades away the mechanism that stores what you just learned.
Grading schemes vary by institution — check how your own school or university weights and rounds marks, as conventions differ.
